Environmental Works decommissioned by removal a 30,000 gallon aviation fuel tank , located within the Hillsboro, Oregon Airport. Hillsboro is an area of shallow groundwater, and so a minor leak resulted in hundreds of tons, and thousands of gallons, of contaminated soil and groundwater being removed from the primary excavation. A secondary excavation, for the removal of an adjacent 5,000 gallon diesel fuel tank and dispenser, was created, and also involved the removal of contaminated soil and groundwater. Engineered plans for reinforced concrete were developed to support the weight of large private jets. Following the restoration of the site with the reinforced concrete a decommissioning report was submitted to the UST Department of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), and a Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) cleanup report was submitted to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Department of the ODEQ, closing the formerly open release file.
